A leftover stump isn't just an eyesore β it's a tripping hazard, a home for termites and carpenter ants, an obstacle to mowing and landscaping, and a foothold for unwanted suckers and fungi. Whether your stump was left by a previous owner or it's the result of a recent removal, our team can grind it out cleanly and quickly. Most Parma-area stumps are gone in under an hour.
Why Grind a Stump?
- Pest prevention β Stumps attract termites, carpenter ants, beetles, and rodents that can spread to your home.
- Safety β A stump hidden in tall grass becomes an ankle-twisting trip hazard for kids, pets, and lawn equipment.
- Aesthetics β A clean yard sells homes faster and looks finished, period.
- Mowing efficiency β No more steering around an obstacle every time you cut the grass.
- Replanting β Stump grindings can be removed and replaced with soil to allow new grass or plantings.
- Disease control β Stumps from diseased trees can continue spreading pathogens to nearby healthy trees if left in place.
How Stump Grinding Works
A stump grinder is a heavy-duty machine with a rotating disc of carbide teeth that chip away wood at very high speed. The operator carefully positions the machine over the stump and lowers the disc, sweeping side to side until the stump is reduced to wood chips. We typically grind 6 to 8 inches below grade β deep enough for grass seed and most plantings, without disturbing nearby utilities.
For deeper grinding (12 inches+) needed for new patios, sheds, or trees, just let us know β we can go deeper for an additional fee.
What You Can Do with the Wood Chips
The grindings are a mix of wood, soil, and roots. Many homeowners use them as free mulch around shrubs and gardens. If you'd rather have the hole backfilled with topsoil and seeded, we offer that as an add-on service for $75β$200 depending on stump size.
